The privacy app for Android that does what Google won't

Android has no equivalent of iOS App Tracking Transparency. The Google Advertising ID is on by default, Google Play services streams telemetry continuously, OEMs collect their own data, and Play Store moderation is looser than Apple's. Casper's Cloak runs as your Android VPN profile and blocks ads, trackers, phishing, and malware in every app — Google's tracking included.

What Android does give you

  • Per-app permissions — granular location, camera, contacts gates (Android 11+ added one-time and auto-revoke)
  • Privacy Dashboard (Android 12+) — shows which apps accessed which sensors recently
  • Manual "delete Advertising ID" in Settings → Privacy → Ads (Android 12+)
  • Per-app VPN routing — choose which apps go through a VPN (more flexible than iOS)
  • Play Protect — Google's malware scanner for Play Store apps

What Android leaves wide open

  • No ATT equivalent — apps freely use the Google Advertising ID unless you manually delete it (most users don't)
  • Google Play services baseline telemetry — streams usage data even when you're not actively using a Google app
  • OEM-specific data collection — Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Huawei all add their own pipelines
  • Sideloaded malware risk — F-Droid and APK installs have weaker moderation than Play Store
  • Cross-app ID linking via Google Sign-In, Firebase, AdMob ad IDs — invisible at the user level
  • In-app phishing — same as iOS, links in SMS/messaging apps don't get Safe Browsing scanning outside Chrome

Built for Android, with Android's strengths in mind

Standard VpnService API. Play Store distribution. Per-app override panel that takes advantage of Android's more flexible VPN model.

Per-app override panel

Android lets a VPN selectively route specific apps. Casper's per-app panel lets you exclude banking, government, or VPN-hostile apps with a tap — without losing protection on everything else. Genuinely better than iOS here.

Tracker blocking beyond Advertising ID

Even with the Advertising ID deleted, apps fingerprint and use Google/Firebase IDs to track. Casper blocks the SDK endpoints regardless of which ID was about to be sent.

OEM telemetry blocking

Samsung Knox analytics, Xiaomi cloud sync, OnePlus heytap, Huawei reporting — all collect data outside any third-party framework. Casper blocks the endpoints; OEM apps keep working.

Faster browsing, less data use

Ads + trackers account for a large share of mobile data on Android. With them blocked, page loads are typically 30–60% faster and cellular data usage drops accordingly.

Public-WiFi protection

Encrypted VPN tunnel — coffee shop, airport, hotel WiFi networks can't observe your traffic, inject scripts, or man-in-the-middle TLS connections.

AI threat detection across messaging

Phishing links arriving via SMS, WhatsApp, Messenger, Signal — Casper scores the destination before you tap. Under-90-second median time-to-block on a zero-day phishing site.

Android-specific FAQs

What Android users ask before installing.

Android has no equivalent of iOS App Tracking Transparency. The Google Advertising ID is on by default and apps freely use it unless you manually go to Settings → Privacy → Ads → Delete advertising ID — a setting most users never find. Google Play services itself streams usage telemetry continuously. OEMs (Samsung, Xiaomi, etc.) add their own data collection on top. App Store moderation is also looser than Apple's, so the malware risk surface is larger. Network-level filtering is the more critical protection on Android precisely because the OS-level controls are weaker.
