The Mac privacy app that covers every browser, every app, every background process

macOS apps have far more system access than iOS apps. Browser extensions only cover the browser they're installed in. Casper's Cloak installs as a standard macOS system network extension and filters every outbound connection — Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Brave, Mail, Slack, Spotify, every menu-bar utility, every background daemon — through one always-on layer.

What macOS gives you out of the box

  • Gatekeeper + Notarization — checks downloaded apps for known malware signatures
  • App Sandbox — App Store apps are sandboxed (non-App-Store apps generally are not)
  • Granular Privacy preferences — apps must request Camera, Microphone, Location, Contacts access
  • Mail Privacy Protection — blocks email pixel tracking in Apple Mail
  • iCloud Private Relay (iCloud+) — anonymizes Safari IP via Apple relays
  • Hide My Email (iCloud+) — per-service email aliases

What macOS leaves open

  • Cross-app tracker blocking — nothing in macOS blocks third-party trackers across apps
  • Threat protection — no system-level ad filter; only Safari content blockers, and only in Safari
  • Phishing detection outside Safari — Chrome/Firefox/Mail/Messages get no Safe Browsing
  • Non-sandboxed app behavior — most third-party Mac apps aren't sandboxed and can talk to any endpoint
  • Background process telemetry — launch daemons, updaters, menu-bar apps phone home freely
  • Public-WiFi protection — coffee shop, conference, hotel networks can observe traffic

Built for Mac, with Mac's threat surface in mind

System network extension. Native Apple Silicon + Intel. Covers every app and every background process — not just one browser.

Every browser, one filter

Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Brave, Arc, Edge, Vivaldi — Casper's filtering applies to all of them at the network layer. Stop installing the same ad-blocker into every browser.

Catches background processes

Adobe Updater, Spotify telemetry, every menu-bar utility, launch daemons, your Docker containers, scripts you run from Terminal — all routed through the same filter. Browser extensions miss all of these.

Tracker blocking across the whole machine

Block Facebook SDK, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, and ~50,000 other trackers in every app, including the ones embedded in non-browser tools.

Faster everything

Ads and trackers are a large share of page weight. Filtered out, page loads typically run 30–60% faster — and the rest of the network throughput is yours.

Coffee shop / conference / hotel safe

Encrypted VPN tunnel. Hostile WiFi networks can't observe your traffic, inject scripts, or man-in-the-middle TLS — this matters more on a laptop than on a phone simply because you move between networks more.

AI threat detection on every link

Phishing links arriving via Mail, Messages, Slack, every email client — Casper scores the destination before you click. Median time-to-block on a zero-day phishing domain: under 90 seconds.

Mac-specific FAQs

What Mac users ask before installing.

macOS is reasonably good on platform privacy (Gatekeeper, App Sandbox for App Store apps, granular Privacy preferences). The gap is the network side: nothing in macOS blocks ads, blocks third-party trackers across apps, or scores destinations for phishing before you visit them. macOS apps also have far more system access than iOS apps — non-sandboxed apps (i.e. most apps you download outside the App Store) can read large parts of your filesystem and freely make network connections. Network-level filtering is the cleanest place to intervene.

One filter for every browser and every app on your Mac.
