Brave Browser Tracker Blocker Not Enough

Brave blocks many trackers in the browser, but it cannot cover traffic from every app, in-app browser, email client, or background service.

Brave’s built-in tracker blocker helps in the browser, but it doesn’t cover every app or all the places phishing and malicious links can reach you — that requires a network-level privacy and security layer.

1. What Brave’s tracker blocker actually protects

Brave focuses on:

  • Blocking many ads and trackers while you browse.
  • Sandboxing third-party scripts and cookies in the browser.

That’s valuable, but it’s scoped to browser traffic. It doesn’t see what’s happening in:

  • Messaging apps
  • Email clients
  • Games and streaming apps
  • System services or background connections

2. Where trackers and threats live outside the browser

Modern trackers and attacks don’t stay in one app:

  • Links arrive via SMS, messaging apps, and email.
  • Apps ship with embedded trackers and analytics SDKs.
  • Phishing pages can open in in-app browsers or system web views.

A browser-only blocker can’t filter all of this traffic because it never passes through the browser’s engine.

3. Why you need network-level filtering and encryption

To protect yourself across apps, you need protection where all traffic flows: the network layer. That means:

  • Encrypted transport: a VPN tunnel (such as WireGuard) that carries all your device’s traffic.
  • DNS-level filtering: a resolver that blocks known ad, tracker, phishing, and malware domains.
  • Real-time analysis: a security layer that inspects connection patterns and domain reputation.
